Taking inspiration from Parisian style

France is one of the four fashion capitals of the world. The chic city of Paris epitomises the style the European country has to offer. Parisians appear confident and elegant without looking as if they have tried too hard. They are neither overdressed or underdressed. It is this effortless style that has truly made Paris fashion a force to be reckoned with. After all, everyone wants to be a trendsetter, but no one wants to look like they have tried to be one. Keeping that in mind, read on to discover some top tips for discovering your inner Parisian…

Spotlight Dressing – First and foremost, one of the best ways to achieve an effortless yet striking look is to practise spotlight dressing. What does this mean? Well, it means you should select one stand out piece of clothing and team it with classic garments, instead of wearing all of the trendy garments in your wardrobe at once. So, avoid teaming a bright blazer with some stripy jeans. Instead, you should pick one or the other. This ensures you always maintain an air of elegance, yet you certainly don’t appear boring.

Style Staples – Do you want to know why French women always look so stylish? It is because their wardrobe is built on the foundations of style staples, which you can get at the likes of Petal and Pup. This should always be the basis for achieving a stunning everyday look. Therefore, make sure you have all of your basics before purchasing stand out items. From a pair of classic skinny jeans, to a crisp white shirt, to a black fitted blazer, without your staples you will struggle to put together a trendy outfit.

Remove One Accessory Before You Leave The House – Can you guess who first came up with this handy tip? It was of course Coco Chanel! Who better to take advice from when trying to achieve the ultimate Parisian look? Coco believed that, before leaving the home, you should always look in the mirror and then remove one item from your outfit. This helps to ensure you accessorise wisely. We are often guilty of lumping on everything from a necklace, to a pair of earrings, to a watch, to a bracelet, to a scarf, to a ring, and even a hat as well. However, less is definitely more when it comes to dressing like the French do. So, focus on a statement watch or a French beret for example.

Billowing Knee-Length Skirts and Dresses – These are your go-to garments when you are struggling to decide what to wear. Team a billowing knee-length skirt with a cute blouse and finish off your look with a casual cardigan and some chunky heels. You will have easily yet effectively achieved the Parisian look. The great thing about this outfit suggestion is the fact that it is suitable for formal events and casual occasions as well, meaning you always have a go-to option when you are lacking a bit of inspiration.

Feminine Meets Masculine – Masculine styles have come into fashion all over the globe over the past few years. However, it seems the Parisians lead the way when it comes to blending masculine style with feminine touches. Take a statement masculine garment, such as an oversized shirt or a pair of boyfriend jeans, and finish off the look by adding some sprinkles of femininity. Opt for a lace garment, a touch of pink, or some floral ballet flats.

Oversized Sunglasses – Last but not least, come rain or shine, every French woman finishes off her outfit with a pair of oversized sunglasses. Look for the biggest and chunkiest pair of sunnies to finish off your Parisian look. This will add an element of class, glamour, personality, and confidence to any outfit. However, you should keep it classic. Avoid coloured lenses and bright frames. Classic black or stylish tortoise is always the best options to go for.

We all want to look like we’ve just stepped out of Paris fashion week so why not give these tips a go?!

Lotsa love
